Astronomical spectroscopy today

Stellar spectroscopy is now use in conjunction with models of stellar evolution and atomic physics. We can now determine multiple properties such as the distance os stars, their age, their luminosity. They of mass loss rate can all be calculated from spectral studies. In addition, the study of Doppler shift can uncover the presence of hidden companions such as exoplanets and black holes.

Spectroscopy is also used to analyse galaxies, the state of the art of the technology is to simultaneously obtain tens of remote galaxy spectrum on the same picture.
